Darchrow’s Corner: Light Part 1, Transitioning

Now for the final element, after this I will most likely be giving my Dark Guide a new coat of paint to align with the more recent guides. I will also add Hades with Cerberus Dagger to the list of summons in the mix.

After that will probably be a quick detour to Grande builds before doing a complete overhaul of the current guide so expect some back tracking soon. As for format or whatnot I will probably keep it as it is, then perhaps publish it as a PDF format and release it on google.docs.

I will be separating this into two parts, the first part will find out the best time to transition from using a Cosmos Sword, Cosmos Gun or just not using Cosmos at all when it comes to Chev Swords. This order may seem strange, but it will help me to narrow down the builds that I have to talk about, these general analysis will also allow me to do a quick comparison between the Summons.

The second part will deal with the builds of each section for various amounts of swords, narrowing down the amount of swords required.

Introduction will be short today so it’s time to select the ground rules for how I will go about at selecting my choices for weapons and summons. All weapons considered will be farmable weapons only and are not from moons or gatcha, all summons will be limit broken (uncapped) to their maximum capability.

Damage ranges considered will be for the following:

Full Grid: 15k Weaponless Damage

5.5k from level 125 and level 100 gatcha summons at around 1.9k damage each.

With all 3* Magna (Omega) weapons, gatcha weapons and Unknowns aplenty.

HL Grid: 18k Weaponless Damage

6k from level 150 and 4* summons at around 2.2k-2.5k (say 2.3k).

With all 4*Magna (Omega) Weapons, got some + bonuses on your weapons.

+99 Grids: 21k Weaponless Damage

Same as HL Grid but with +99 on all weapons and summons.

Now we consider the candidates for weapons we might put in our weapon grid.

Unlike other elements, inserting Chev Swords into your build changes the dynamic of your weapons and summons. I decide to run a massive gauntlet of calculation for using Cosmos Guns, Cosmos Sword, non Cosmos with varying amounts of Chev Swords from 0 – 8/9. As a pointer to the amount of builds explored, here is a snapshot of my spreadsheet for Zeus builds.

The methodology here is to find the maximum damage from 0 Chev Swords by changing number of unknowns from 4-0 and always having 1 bahamut weapon (unless comparing Zeus) and GW harp. Increase Chev Sword count by 1, find the maximum damage from 1 Chev Sword. Repeat until no weapon space is left

This process is done using both Cosmos Gun, Sword and non Cosmos and the maximum damage from each Chev Sword count is taken and compared between each other. For this case all Chev Swords are considered at 4*, minimum level 120 and skill level 15. This will slightly skew the balance during Full Grid stage but the key data here is to see what happens for HL Grids and beyond.

Each of the three types of builds will be compared with using Chev + Lucifer, Double Lucifer and Zues + Lucifer.

So here are the following results:

Chevalier / Luminiera  Builds

2040047000

The dynamic between the three builds, Cosmos Gun, Swords and non Cosmos change a lot based on the number of Swords in your pool.

For Cosmos Guns the removal of a gun in favour of a sword will diminish the potency of the Cosmos Gun, similarly the Cosmos Sword only gains traction once enough Swords are introduced to your weapon pool. Non Cosmos builds have no dependency in respects to adding or removing weapons, but is expected to yield less damage than Cosmos Builds.

For Chevalier Builds, it is standard to be using mostly Chev Guns and a Bahamut Weapon. For the first section I will use the same Bahamut Weapon (Dagger) as a base comparison for all types.

Without considering any specific Bahamut Weapon that favours your respective Cosmos. A non Cosmos build is strong once you get at least 2 Chev Swords.

Cosmos Guns are strong at the start but might be seen as a poor investment if you use Cosmos Guns purely for light and not as a secondary (say, Wind or Titan Earth).

Cosmos Swords take time to shine as a you need at least 6 – 7 to begin to overtake non Cosmos builds, once they overtake them however, the damage difference is still negligible.

Next I will use Bahamut Gun for Cosmos Gun builds and Bahamut Sword for Cosmos Sword builds, keeping Bahamut Dagger for non Cosmos as a comparison.

Using a Bahamut weapon specific to your respective Cosmos. A non Cosmos build has a small gap where it is considered stronger than both builds. This is between 3-4 Chev Swords to 5-6 Chev Swords.

Cosmos Guns are strong at the start and stay relevant till your third Chev Sword, considering that your first Chev Sword is purchasable. It is possible to have a second Sword by the time you’ve completed your set of Guns. This makes for a good build to stop at for people who willing to extend too far into light, yet are still very strong and capable in this element.

Cosmos Swords required a decent amount overtake non Cosmos builds need, at least 5 – 6, the damage difference is larger against non Cosmos than when using Bahamut Dagger (of course).

Having more than 7 Chev Swords in this case is not preferable if you have to use a main hand weapon.

Conclusion:

Cosmos Guns are always stronger at the start and will last until your second to third Chev Sword. The feasibility of a gun build is high for light as most of their main characters are human. This will also allow to put Funfu in your team without any penalties. You will also get a slight penalty on using the two Eruns, Seruel and Ferry. Thought their function far exceeds what damage they can deal on their own.

Cosmos Sword take time to build up and will be a pipe dream for many people. Light currently has no SSR Dorafs hence its function is mainly for the Humans and the added stats with Cosmos Sword. Same comments apply with Cosmos Gun statement.

Non Cosmos builds are strong for those who have semi-committed to light, having a couple of Chev Swords (one Chev Sword being purchasable) allows you to use the Bahamut Weapon of your choice (probably Bahamut Dagger). A non Cosmos build will be viable for a long time when you’re waiting for you sixth of seventh Chev Sword. Ancillary functions of Cosmos skills not withstanding.

Having more than 7 Chev Swords decrease your damage, as for this study, you are locked into using  Main hand, Cosmos and Bahamut Weapon. Using an additional Chev Sword will replace the Bahamut Weapon and will give an overall decrease in damage.

Double Lucifer Builds

2040056000

For Double Lucifer Builds, a mixture of unawakened GW Guns and Chev Guns will be considered alongside a Bahamut Weapon. Similar to Chev Builds, the first section will use the same Bahamut Weapon (Dagger) as a base comparison for all types then progress to using respective Bahamut weapons for Cosmos Build.

Without considering any specific Bahamut Weapon that favours your respective Cosmos. A non Cosmos build is strong once you get at least 2 Chev Swords.

Cosmos Guns are strong initially but lose their placing after at least 2 Chev Swords have been introduced to your build.

Cosmos Swords here are stronger than in Chev Builds as they take one less sword to overtake non Cosmos builds, once they overtake them however, the damage difference is still negligible.

Next I will use Bahamut Gun for Cosmos Gun builds and Bahamut Sword for Cosmos Sword builds, keeping Bahamut Dagger for non Cosmos as a comparison.

Similar observations can be made with Chev Builds,

Cosmos Guns retain their strength at up to 3 Guns and are only outdone when you have a forth Chev Sword.

Cosmos Swords required around 5 – 6 Chev Swords to become the stronger option for all. Similarly the damage difference is still minor.

The margin in which non Cosmos builds are strong are much smaller than with Chev Builds.

Having more than 7 Chev Swords in this case is not preferable if you have to use a main hand weapon.

Conclusion:

Similar comments apply to Chev Builds, Cosmos Guns are always stronger at the start and will last until your second Chev Sword, forth if you are using a Bahamut Gun. Cosmos Guns retain their strange up to 2-3 Guns. The dynamic here is strange as a GW Gun has higher standard stats than a Chev Gun, but are not capable of being 4* (as of yet). This makes them strong with a Full grid and much weaker during HL.

Cosmos Swords required 6 Chev Swords to become the stronger option for all. The damage difference is relatively minor compared to non Cosmos builds.

The margin in which non Cosmos builds are strong are much smaller are considerable. You will use them when you have at least 2-3 Chev Swords and can use a Cosmos Sword after you’ve obtained your mythical sixth Sword.

Having more than 7 Chev Swords in this case is preferable as you are not restricted by having a weapon slot dedicated to a Bahamut Weapon.

Conclusion:

Cosmos Guns are always stronger at the start (more so before HL) and will last until your second Chev Sword.

Cosmos Sword takes 6 Chev Swords to outdo the other builds, this is a turn term target for a light player.

Non Cosmos builds are strong for those who have semi-committed to light, having a couple of Chev Swords (one Chev Sword being purchasable) allows you to use your Cosmos slot for other elements. Ancillary functions of Cosmos skills not withstanding.

Having more Chev Swords will not penalise you, you can even run 9 Chev Swords with a non Cosmos Build.

The results show that, during Full Grid stage, Double Lucifer is very potent as a summon choice. If you SOMEHOW manage 6 Swords in this stage then a Zeus summon begins to exceed both options, also please share me your secret.

For HL and onwards, Chev + Lucifer is stronger from 0 Chev Swords to 5  Chev Swords, similar to before, Zeus + Lucifer is king after you have accrued 6 Chev Swords or more.

Now it is time to consider what happens when you remove the additional elemental bonus from fighting Dark.

Without considering bonuses from fighting Dark, Double Lucifer is very potent as a summon choice. However, if and when you can get your 7 Chev Swords, then Zeus is stronger all around.

Conclusion:

More most situations, Double Lucifer is potent when you intend to fight any element. This setup is also considerably strong before you manage to 4* any of your Chev Guns. Also gives you the ability to use GW Guns or gatcha weapons in your grid (until about 4-5 Chev Swords).

When fighting Dark, Chev + Lucifer is the standard for most as you are capable of scaling well once you have started to 4* your weapons. Fighting off-element will lag you behind with Double Lucifer slightly, but the builds are similar enough that you can swap between Double Lucifer and Chev + Lucifer without (assuming you have a Lucifer) depending on the fight. Chev will however gain double health from Chev Swords, making this the much tankier build out of the available options.

Zeus has the highest potential for damage out of all the summons. They scale hard with Chev Swords as they yield a 120% bonus compared to Chev’s 100%. The damage overall does not show much promise until 4 Swords and above with 6-7 Swords making Zeus the ultimate choice for pairing with Lucifer. Zeus will allow you to use any character combination as it does not rely on using Bahamut Weapons, but will not improve the health modifier attached to Chev Swords.

With this out of the way, I will need to find a way to detail all builds in such a way that will be concise enough for people to see. I may reduce it to a more qualitative analysis than a quantitative one, giving general pointers to what to use for Unknowns at certain Chev Sword ranges etc. I’ll figure something out.

See you next time.
