Darchrow’s Corner: Final(?) Limit Break Unknowns and implications thereof

It seems that our friend Mr. Haruta is unrelenting when it comes to reruns. The idea of 4★ Unknowns (or EX if you look at the skill icon) has some interesting consequences to how some might go about at building their weapon grid, more so with Fire where the Unknown itself has greater stats than the Magna Weapon.

Since the methodology has been said and done already, I want to make this post susinct and to the point on Fire and Earth builds that could have been affected by the introduction of these weapons.

For the uninitiated, here are the weapons and their respective stats.

Weapon Attack Stat
(level 100 / 150)
Modifier
(Skill level 10 / 15)
Sombre Axe

2130 / 2490 15% / 18%
マルメテル・ハンマー

2140 / 2495 15% / 18%

The following will cover the following builds using the same basis used through-out the entire blog series.

For Agnis Builds, the change is simply moving from using 2 Colossus Staves and a Sombre Axe to using 2 Sombre Axe and a Colossus Staff, damage has overall increased as a result of this.

Fire Colossus Builds 2040034000Since it has already been established that Cosmos Staff is not suitable for a Colossus Fire Grid, I will omit them from future calculations.

Similar to before, 2 Unknowns are the stronger option here if you fancy using a Suzaku Katana, a 3rd Unknown can be placed in if you decide to forgo the Katana or just use a Katana and not Main a GW Weapon.

Double Athena Builds

2040021000(2)

Due the current unavailability of 4★ on Athena weapons, Ifrit Spear will still be considered here. You can however insert a gatcha 4★ weapon to get much better results

For Double Athena builds, Suzaku Katana is an important component in building your grid due to its 20% Normal Modifier. You can build Double Athena with either 4 Unknowns and 3 Staves or 3 Unknowns and 4 Staves, with 4 Unknowns being overall the stronger build. Due to the popularity of Athenas in the friends list, this maybe a simple build to use for someone merely wishing to get their Fire to a GW ready level as Athena 4★ is a staple in most people’s sub summons.

Magna with Athena is stronger against Wind in this case and similar to Dark, Light or any double Elemental Summon setup, they should function better against a neutral element. For further study the values against neutral element shown below.

It seems even the advantage of neutral element can not push Double Athena above Magna, unlike the 120% power houses of Lucifer and Bahamut. Though the purpose of this seems relatively pointless as you’d use Double Athena for a make-shift GW ready Fire grid.

Yggdrasil Builds

2040027000

Earth’s Magna Builds were previously very Yggdrasil Sword heavy due to the sub-par stats of the Unknowns available to them. Giving Earth the (current) strongest Unknown to date has changed up a few ways to approach building Earth.

Firstly, Byakko Fist is still bad, regardless of Cosmos or Non-Cosmos if you ever plan to use a GW weapon. If you are adamant on using Ygg Sword, Unknowns or the the fist itself then by all means you can add it to your pool. When using Cosmos, only consider the fist as a main weapon.

You will find however if you opt to use a GW Weapon that isn’t a Sword, the Cosmos Sword isn’t as strong as it use to be as a selection. The strength of Cosmos Sword in general has diminished with the element having trouble finding enough members to benefit from the coveted Balance Cosmos weapon for the 20% DA and Defense.

Cosmos Builds can use anywhere from 1 to 2 Unknowns with minor differences. Similarly Non-Cosmos builds can go from 2 to 3 Unknowns with minor differences also.

Double Tezacatlipoca Builds

Tezcatlipoca (or Tezac) is an interesting summon that scales based on the different Races you have in your party. It also has a very strong active (albeit random) where you gain 100% Additional Earth damage at an approximately 10% proc rate. The way the summon works is as follows:

Limit Break Element Bonus %
MC MC + 1 Race MC + 2 Races MC + 3 Races
0 – 2★ 10 30 60 100
3★ 30 50 80 120

For the purpose of what counts towards the total of your different Race types, Unknown Race and Subs DO NOT COUNT.

The initial synergy with Titan can be foreseen due to Titan not relying on using Bahamut Weapons to create their grid. To have a quick look at Tezac builds I want to try running a double Tezac using the new Unknowns (considering Tezac with Magna will be the same just higher values etc).

This will not consider Bahamut Weapons, though in reality it is possible to go a Bahamut Axe build with say, Aruru and either of the GW characters or Bahamut Sword with Ayer and Sarasa. Leaving one character (preferably support/utility/Sara) to not gain benefit from the Bahamut Weapon.

Tezac builds are probably the only build that can make any use of the Byakko Fist without a 4★ gatcha weapon such as Greatsword Andalius or 4★ Baal Axes. Even with the Cosmos Synergy between Unknown Axe and Baal Axe won’t make the Cosmos Axe a worthy choice in this setup. 2 to 3 Unknowns here is a safe bet with minor differences between either.

Baal Axe Builds

Due to the complexity of how to show and run information on Enmity builds, I will revert back to the old style for now until I can find something easier to use.

The following builds considered as follows for Baal Axe Titan Build:

For someone using a GW Weapon, Baal Axe Build 4 is one of the stronger builds with only 1 Unknown and scales very well with health deficit. Non-Cosmos Builds 6 and 7 scale well within the first 75% but starts to trial off at around the 70-65% mark. Build 7 is stronger than Build 6 at around 75%. The amount of unknowns used in Baal Axe Builds are in the 1 – 2 region.
