Darchrow’s Corner: An Axe to Grind with Baal

2040013000

Greetings all,

New weapons are out. Things have been mistranslated, Magnas have been neglected and Chaos Ruler is a good skin.

Anyway, some people have been asking about certain things. Mostly the Earth weapons, or specifically the Earth Axe that drops from Baal, a summon battle previously only available to those who managed to get him 4 times from Gatcha Rolls.

So, if I am doing this, does this mean that I will be studying other weapons? Nope.

It just means I feel like the Axe has the right mix of potential and complexity that some studies of it would be beneficial. Athena’s Sword is really straight forward and just replaces a Normal Weapon if you have Agnis etc. Odin’s spear is straight forward and has no penalties like the Grani’s Fist or Baal’s Gun.

For the uninitiated, here is what the Axe’s Skill looks like:

Untitled

For starters, the main limitations for these weapons are that they are only capable to be taken to 3 . This of course makes logical sense to dismiss the new weapons for the time being, as you already have options such as Vohu Gun for Earth. But, the question here is to figure out if the small enmity is potent enough to make up for its current level 100 limit.

The things I will want to answer in this article are:

  • How much stronger is it to a Normal Yggdrasil Build?
  • How much stronger is it to a Vohu Gun Build?
  • Is it still strong when I don’t have a 3 Titan?
  • How strong is it when it gets a 4 ?

Due to the interest of time and the fact GW is in session, I am going to go back to basics here and not look at influences of Base Damage. There are few key things to note here:

Ygg’s Sword at level 100 is 2,270 Attack and 2,650 at level 150.

Vohu Gun at level 100 2,165 Attack and 2,530 at level 150.

Baal’s Axe at level 100 is 2,438 Attack.

Baal’s Axe damage is comparable to that of Chev Gun at 2,440 Attack which goes to 2,850 Attack at 150.

Assumptions can be made that this axe ‘can’ potentially reach 2,800+, if you want to consider Base Damage.

From previous studies, it is shown that Cosmos Builds are around a couple of percent stronger than Non Cosmos Builds and Magna Builds are around 10% stronger than Vohu Gun Builds with Titan. Using this you can infer how Magna Builds, Cosmos Magna Builds, and Vohu Builds will compare with Baal Axe Builds.

Firstly, it is time to get the ground rules on what I want to compare.

The following studies will compare the Weapon Modifiers of the Baal Axe using Titan against a Ygg Sword Build.

The Ygg Build for comparison will be a barebones 6 Magna : 2 Unknown : Byakko Fist : Bahamut HL. This gives us a Modifier of 6.24 (1+1.18*6*2)*(1+0.15*2)*(1+0.2+0.32)

The goal here is to find out how much Health is required for a Baal Axe Build to overtake this value. This will be called “Health cut-off Point”.

Each Case will use Baal Axe Count of 1 – 10, each Normal Weapon that ISN’T a Baal Axe will be a generic Normal Weapon of similar Attack Modifier (like say a 3Vohu Gun), this will be used to show how the stacking of enmity affects the Titan Build.

Once all Normal Weapon slots are exhausted, I will slowly replace unknowns and magna weapons to see if I can get more damage from the extra enmity.

(This study will not look at double Titan builds for enmity goodness with Ayer and Sarasa)

At 1 – 2 Axes, the general damage you deal will not exceed that of a Ygg Build unless greatly wounded, this value starts to become more reasonable with 3 – 4 Axes at around 70% Health deficit to out damage a Ygg Build. 5 – 8 Axes are reasonable Health values to be fighting at with 7 being the sweet spot for damage consistency. 9 Axes is enmity build, as you overtake at health ranges below 60%.

For a non MLB Titan, the potential of the Axes look relatively bleak. At 2 – 3 Axes you need to be at a high deficit and 1 Axe can not exceed that of Ygg Build. Maximum is at 7 Axes at barely above 68%. Similar to MLB Titan, 9 Axes is enmity build, as you overtake at health ranges below 40%.

If it isn’t obvious yet, the fact Tiamat Gun’s has a notorious reputation with its Medium Attack and Small enmity. The Large Attack and Small enmity of Baal’s Axe will prove amazing (if and when it gets a 4 ★). The ‘bad’ part here is 1 Axe needs around 80% to exceed the damage of a Ygg Build. After that, the numbers only get nicer and nicer. In this case, 6 Sixes are the sweet spot for consistency and 9 Axes is great for enmity shenanigans whilst 10 Axes is for people with Swimsuit Zooey.

Now that I’ve looked at some numbers, I hope people could make a clearer judgement on if they actually want to go grind for Axes if they have a Titan stashed somewhere, or if people want to stick to their Ygg Build.

Happy Hunting.
